FAQs

Q1. Why does DAM1 only support PCM384KHz and DSD256?

If we were to support PCM768KHz, the frequency of the main clock would need to be doubled, resulting in a phase noise difference of about 3-6dB in the low-frequency region of the high-performance clock, which is not conducive to sound quality. In addition, supporting higher bit rates would require a power supply with a higher output voltage, which is not well-suited to the supercapacitor power supply used in DAM1. Furthermore, the cost and maturity of the current 384KHz and DSD256-related chips or details are more mature and lower, whereas many DSD512 or PCM768KHz are still in their infancy and would significantly increase the cost of DAM1.

Q2. Why doesn't DAM1 have a preamp function or network interface?

DAM1 is a pure DAC focused on core decoding capabilities, and we don't want it to be overpriced. Currently, DAM1 is very balanced in all aspects, and any increase in functionality would lead to skyrocketing costs. Our aim was to produce a Hi-END level reference decoder that many audiophiles and deep music lovers can afford.

Q3. Which input interface has the best sound?

Since both the SPDIF input and the USB input use the same local master clock, the principle is not very different. However, the actual impact of the interface, such as optical fiber, will be slightly worse due to photoelectric conversion factors. If your USB output is very bad or if the coaxial is more ordinary, the sound will not be very good, so it depends on the state of the input source. Therefore, each interface does not have any shortcomings, and you can select the appropriate one based on the actual sound source/transport status.

Q4. Can we customize the power supply for DAM1?

This is prohibited because the DAM1 host is a very sophisticated DAC that is very sensitive to power fluctuations and noise. We have tried to connect the same voltage power supply to the DAM1, resulting in damage to the DAM1 power supply. Therefore, we also warn on the back of the power supply and in the manual that non-official power supplies are not allowed to be connected to DAM1.

Q5. What aspects is DAM1 sensitive to, and how should we pay attention?

DAM1, as a Hi-END DAC, is undoubtedly very sensitive and enables you to hear details that you would not otherwise hear. With a high analytical power speaker system, it's easy to tell the difference between different configurations, shock absorption schemes, and power supplies. DAM1 is sensitive to DC wire and shock absorption, so you can optimize and adjust the default DC wire and shock absorption of DAM1 to achieve unexpected results.
